I'm heading for bed a bit early tonight. [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor and I were able to get down to the con this afternoon and see some folks, though the concert tonight was $35 per person and I just didn't have the money or the wherewithal for it tonight. We will probably head down tomorrow as well, and are hoping to be out of here by 2pm to hear the panel. We might have an opportunity to go to tomorrow's performance if one of her friends comes through.

And now, tired Erynn is about to go fainting in coils, so I'm gonna head for bed.

Have an awesome night!

I do think the headaches have been, at least in part, the result of constantly wearing the bifocals. Today I'm wearing my old glasses again. I've been on the computer a lot today and am feeling some eyestrain, but I don't have the migraines that have been following me around for what seems like a couple of weeks now.

Today I catalogued nearly 60 books that had been sitting in stacks here in the living room. Several weren't found in the search (this happens from time to time, when an ISBN or LOC number isn't correct), and so will eventually have to be entered manually. I was glad to be able to get a few piles of books up off the floor, though.

Email brought my schedule for Norwescon -- I'm on four fanfic/writing panels and doing a poetry reading with some other poets. It should be fun, and I'm really looking forward to it coming up in March.

Tomorrow there will be steampunky things, though I am not certain of our exact location yet. It hasn't been decided whether it'll be at the AFK or out in Snohomish again.
erynn: Gaelic merman image (Steamy time travel)
I got an email today that [livejournal.com profile] joyful_storm won't be making it down to PCon this year (I am sad), but we will get together sometime soon, with any luck, just for hanging out purposes.

B has moved in today. We discovered that the guest bathroom tub does not drain if one takes a bath. I'm going to have to get some drain unpluggy stuff for it tomorrow when the stores are open.

I have started [livejournal.com profile] ogam's flamekeeping shift, followed immediately by my own, tomorrow. Also, there will be steampunkery at the AFK.

I dredged through McQuarrie's Manannán dissertation and dug up incidents of Manannán as a healing deity. I also put together my basic outline for the presentation. Tomorrow during the day, I'll drag out my big pad of paper and start writing out the names of the 30+ deities so that people will be able to spell them properly (at least from the sources I've compiled) if they are interested in exploring these figures further.

Also, there is banana bread. Noms.

Oh, and here, have a vid from the Abney Park show I went to earlier this month:

erynn: Gaelic merman image (gir explode)
I was feeling pretty headachey yesterday and so went to bed early, about 10:30. I got up again at 3am and stayed up for an hour or so then went back to bed. Today was my VA group. I ran into Jeff from the CR group at Travelers and we talked for a while before we both headed off home.

Planning is in progress for this weekend, with the Abney Park show and the bad movie day/Melody's birthday. I got in touch with [livejournal.com profile] random_nexus about visiting her in Fresno after PCon. I dragged books down from the shelves to do some more research. My head still hurts.

It was immensely foggy today all day and I almost fell in the parking lot tonight on the black ice. It really is a ski slope out there. I do my best, but even just walking sometimes is a hazard.

Tomorrow, dishes and writing. Possibly in that order. If my headache calms down.
erynn: Gaelic merman image (egret strutting)
I've been in contact with a few more people today and got responses from some of them. Folks in Providence have been contacted, Owen passed the info along and I'm waiting to hear back. Mom suggested I get in touch with an old friend of hers in Indianapolis, though she only has a phone, no computer. I haven't seen her since I was maybe 12 or 13, which is more recently than I had seen Lowell Ford before I went to visit him a couple of years back. The phone thing will be awkward for me, but it would be nice to see her again.

Mom has been giving me some idea of drive times that she's done on her trips to various places along the way. I deal a little better with distance driving than she does, but will take her trips as a guideline.

I got confirmation on my hostel reservation in Ashland today for my trip to PCon, so that's one thing done and out of the way.

Tonight I went with a friend over to Gary and Melody's for a game evening. We played Munchkin Apocalypse, which everyone really liked, and several rounds of Zombie Dice to cap off the evening. [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor wasn't able to go, as she wasn't feeling well, but greetings were passed along and regrets extended.

Today was cold and clear, and it's down to 24f here tonight. When I drove down into Everett it was deeply foggy. When I came home, I stuck to surface streets rather than taking I-5 because I didn't want to have to worry about people going to fast with low visibility. It was less stressful that way.

Tomorrow, if I'm feeling up to it, there may be dancing in the evening. I'm hoping I'll get a little writing and prep for PCon done, as well. I got some notes from [livejournal.com profile] alfrecht that are helpful, as usual. I still need to dig out some books and do more research to add to my list of Irish healing deities. Busy Erynn remains busy. (And cold.)
erynn: Gaelic merman image (Holmes & Watson & Lestrade)
I ended up driving down to Puyallup for the Sound of the Baskervilles annual Sherlock Holmes birthday party. The place was a bit of a problem to locate, and traffic was heavier than I expected, but I met some very nice folks there, a couple of whom will be at the Sherlock Seattle party tomorrow at Seattle Center. I introduced a middle-aged lesbian couple to fanfic. As a member of the SoB's, I was told I must choose a canon name (a person, place, or thing that appeared in one of Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories) and came home newly christened The Giant Rat of Sumatra.

When I got home, I sent comments on a fic somebody had asked me to look over for them. Who sent along art for one of the fics I wrote a while back. Like a boss.

And to top it all off, the headache today was really mild and I was pretty much completely functional!

Not bad for a day's work.
erynn: Gaelic merman image (d'oh!)
My headache isn't really getting much better (sometimes I have a mild to moderate headache for weeks on end because fibro sucks), and the cold has been getting to my knees and hips, so I doubt I am going to get out to the shrine for Hatsumode this year unless things improve drastically tomorrow. Chances of that are low.

I paid the bills today and when I tried to print out the confirmation pages and such, my printer, which has been acting up lately, finally gave up the ghost. This necessitated a trip over to the store to get a new one. I then spent a couple of hours messing about with packaging and installation and wireless setup and all that stuff before I could print the receipts. At least I have reduced the number of cables doing the spaghetti thing under the desk - being this one is wireless, I don't have a USB cable to worry about.

The new printer is an Epson. The old one was an HP. I have a spare black and a spare color cartridge for it. If you use HP 92 and 93, and you're willing to send me $20 and postage, I'll let you have the pair of them. Better if you're local and can just pick them up from me, though.

After I got all that sorted, I did go grocery shopping, mostly because the DoDC+3 was out of food and responsible dog mommies get food for their critters.

Needless to say, I got little else done. Headaches are not conducive to focus. I did print out a doc from someone who wants me to offer some comments on her PCon presentation. That was part of my frustration with the printer today. I'd meant to spend some time reading it over and giving it some thought, but just didn't have the spoons by the time I got through with everything.

I ordered in some pasta from next door. It's convenient to have a few things nearby that do deliver. I felt a little better after I ate, but not quite enough to be genuinely functional. Fortunately, my hand hurts a little less today!

There was email this afternoon from Hiraeth about publicity plans for this coming year for the press. There are a few things I need to do, including actually getting off my ass and seeing about arranging readings at Elliott Bay and Open Books if possible. I wish I wasn't so nervous about talking to strangers. It's really hard for me to send an email out of the blue and say "hey, can I maybe schedule a reading at your store." I know some people are all about talking to pretty much anyone, but being introverted on top of being anxious around talking to strangers makes it difficult for me.

And now to try and maybe do a little more about the headache and possibly get something resembling sleep.
erynn: Gaelic merman image (triple nerd score)
I'm feeling kind of awesome and kind of sniffly. My friend [livejournal.com profile] fififolle, whom I met this summer, said that I was one of the highlights of her year:

I had rather an up and down year writing-wise, but a highlight of my year was meeting in person the lovely erynn999, someone who inspired my writing in early days, showed me what good slash is, and continues to do so. Thank you, sweetie, for coming to visit me!

I'm so touched, Fi - you are amazing and wonderful and always welcome under my roof anytime you are in the same hemisphere.

I went to the Post-Apocalypse steampunk tea at Kier's place over in Greenwood for a couple of hours and had a lovely time. I played Martial Fluxx with friends, shared info about the Sherlock Seattle party on January 6th with one of my friends, and learned that there is an Abney Park and Steam Powered Giraffe show in Everett in April that I want to go to, since it's about 15 minutes from my place.

When I got home, I ended up writing a 3,300 word outline for a fic I want to do later this year when I've got the article on ogam finished and a good start on the Brigid book. Geordie says that he'd be interested in doing a panel on esoteric poetry at the Esoteric Book Conference in September, and put him in touch with [livejournal.com profile] alfrecht, who wants to propose one with us and Ruby Sara, who edited the Datura and Mandragora anthologies.

Now my left hand ring finger is all numb and hurting. I'm going to have to lay off the keyboard for a couple of days and to pay my bills tomorrow.

Tired Erynn will now crawl off and go to bed.
erynn: Gaelic merman image (erynn999 merman)
Today I went down to the VA for the spirituality group. Next week is the last one until probably mid-January. I'd taken a copy of my poetry book to show off at the queer Pagan meetup but one of the gals in the group had asked a few weeks back about buying a copy, so I sold it to her, since I have ten more coming any day now.

After the VA, I spent a little time at Travelers grabbing some dinner (late lunch, for me), then went up to the Hill for the queer Pagan meetup. It was a pretty good crowd, about fifteen people, about five of whom were new. There were some good conversations. I caught up with several people I hadn't seen since before I left for Ireland. I talked to Craigula about Gargoyles and showing some photos that I took in Prague and Kutná Hora and he was really excited by the idea.

Moss won't be able to join us Sunday for Sigilaria, as he will be in Florida. Tomorrow the Air Krakens ring in the zombie apocalypse with our masquerade ball out in Snohomish. It should be fun, if the headache I currently have doesn't stick with me through the night.
erynn: Gaelic merman image (Magical Sigils)
This afternoon [livejournal.com profile] druid_medb and I headed down to the VA for group. She waited for me and then we went over to Travelers for some dinner and up to the Hill so that I could take her by Edge and Elliott Bay Books. I dropped her at her hotel down in Pioneer Square in the evening and then headed home. She'll be able to walk to the train station tomorrow morning at OhGod:30. We had a pretty great time and did a lot of work on our presentation. We've got enough stuff together to pretty much take it from the outline we have now, but we can also do some polishing and additional work via email, so we're good on that. I need to remember to scan a couple of things and email them to her.

When I got home, I talked with [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor, who is almost ready to upload the sound files for Circle of Stones. She's working out a few final graphics issues and, with luck, the file will be available (she said $5 but I want to check in with her one final time before I announce that for sure) tomorrow on BandCamp.

I checked a bunch of tickyboxes for Norwescon's panels this evening. We're required to pick 10 or more so that they have an ample field to choose from. I ticked 10 boxes and reiterated my time restriction (nothing before 2pm if possible), so that should be good. Mostly fanfic panels, a couple of writing/publishing panels, a couple of poetry panels. I figure I'll get a few of them and it should be fun.

At the moment, my upcoming schedule is kind of spotty, but I have the following things on it, at least tentatively:

Amanda's Birthday: December 9th
Medieval Women's Choir: December 15th
TENTATIVE: [livejournal.com profile] mael_brigde: between December 17th-19th
I believe [livejournal.com profile] ogam gets here December 18th
Queer Pagan Meetup: December 20th
Air Krakens End of the World Masquerade: December 21st
Sigillaria: December 23rd
The Hobbit with Steampunks: December 25th
[livejournal.com profile] nathan_fhtagn and [livejournal.com profile] meddevi at the Can Can: December 30th
Shinto New Year: January 1st
Air Krakens Post-Apocalypse Tea: January 1st
Sound of the Baskervilles' Holmes birthday party: January 5th
Seattle Sherlock fandom's Holmes party: January 6th
Abney Park show: January 19th
Bad Movie Night: January 20th

I'm also looking at planning a bad movie party with some of my friends in January.

If I've said I would do something with you and it's not on this, please let me know. My memory is like a steel sieve.
erynn: Gaelic merman image (GONZO!)
Today we worked on our presentation on spirit work and PTSD. We've got some good outline material together, and have sorted out some of our sources. [livejournal.com profile] druid_medb and I are definitely on the same page for most of it, and where we do disagree, it's very minor. We'll do some more work tomorrow after we've talked more about some of the material we want to cover.

This morning's email brought a note from RedBubble saying that the iPad cover was actually for an iPad 2, which is very slightly smaller than the iPad 1, and I'd forgotten that I had the first iteration of the thing. I got it just before the 2 came out. Anyway, they sent me a refund and said go ahead and keep it - give it to somebody, hang it up as art, whatever. So, does anyone have an iPad 2 and want a really cool hard case for the back that says "Get Fucking Epic and Do Shit"? We can work a deal, if you like. Let me know.

This evening we went and hung out with the steampunks over in Lake Stevens. The place we were in closed at 8pm so it wasn't open as late as we had expected. This is likely to become an issue. We went in on our scouting trip for the place on a Thursday, and their hours are different that night. Anyway, after that, I took [livejournal.com profile] druid_medb over to the AFK and introduced her to the awesome that is my local gamer geek tavern. She was suitably impressed. Upon arrival home, we watched Steamboy and had a lot of fun with that.

Tomorrow will be more work on our presentation, as noted above. Thursday is the VA, and she will be staying Thursday night in downtown Seattle in walking distance of the train station, as the train leaves before 9am, and getting her there through rush hour traffic would mean an unseasonably early departure time from Everett. She's good with that and has made her reservation at an inexpensive place in Pioneer Square. We'll head over to the VA for my appointment, then spend the afternoon/evening down in Seattle before I drop her down in Pioneer Square for the night.

All is well. Happiness abounds.
erynn: Gaelic merman image (Five Thousand Fingers of Dr T)
There wasn't much going on today. I got up and dealt with some stuff around the house, then dropped by the store for a few things. [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor came by about 7 and we went over to G & M's for some gaming. Zombie Dice, Cthulhu Dice, and Pirate Fluxx were had by all.

Got home and made up a bunch of vegetarian food, which I ate some of and stuffed the rest into the fridge. Tomorrow afternoon is [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor's much-belated birthday party.

Sunday evening I pick up [livejournal.com profile] druid_medb down in Seattle in the evening.

Fun stuff!
erynn: Gaelic merman image (Writy enochian keyboard)
Today I stayed home and wrote. I've finished up the fic, with about 31,650 words give or take. My beta and my britpicker will have a look at it tomorrow. Now I just need to give the thing a title. usually I start with one, so this was... different. I looked at my stats over on a site where I post a lot of my fic (I still have a bunch left to edit and post there that I've been putting off for a couple of years), and I have apparently posted 1,111,041 words of fanfic over the time I've been on that website. I have no idea what that number would be if I posted the rest of it. Over a million words. That's a hell of a lot of fic.

Geekery, we has it.
erynn: Gaelic merman image (writy pooped)
Didn't even get to bed last "night" until about 9am, but that's how these things go sometimes. I was up about 2pm and staggered about the place trying to do a few things. (Got some laundry done, I'm waiting for the last of it to dry now.)

I hung out in skype with my beta and did a bunch of work on the fic I'm writing. It's at 19,666 words at the moment. It is the story of the beast, obviously.

This afternoon I pinged [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor not realizing she was down in Seattle for the CR group's annual meeting. She sent me a text when she got home, so I asked her to come over and I made us some dinner. We're about to collapse in a heap, once my laundry is finished.

Tomorrow I'm hoping to be at least vaguely awake. In the mail today, I got a spiffy long sleeved t-shirt proclaiming "Get Fucking Epic and Do Shit" - just like my mug. Now I can wear it and proclaim to the world my epic intentions. [livejournal.com profile] winneganfake's work, that. Y'all go get things from him on RedBubble.
erynn: Gaelic merman image (Book of Dreams)
Today was shrinkage, and I talked a lot about some things that had been on my mind - my book, politics, aging, life, travel and its aftermath, writing. I felt pretty good coming out of it and am glad to have that time once a month. I really do feel like it helps with stuff. While I was in the waiting room before my appointment, I saw one of the gals from tomorrow's group and she asked if I had any more copies of my book; at that point I didn't but I said I'd bring a few along as soon as I got them again. Quite a few of the women there have bought them from me - one woman liked it enough that she bought a second copy for one of her friends, which was very flattering.

At Travelers, I ran into a gal I'd met this spring, when my friend Geordie was doing a weekend workshop at her place. We talked briefly about him, and I mentioned my poetry book. We ended up talking about abebooks.com as an alternative to Amazon for things. I was surprised that she had not only remembered me, but my name, as I have trouble remembering people's names unless I see them several times.

Upon my arrival home, I got the box of poetry books I'd been expecting. I've stuck one in my bragging pile on my desk and am going to leave it there so that I don't end up without one. I do need to keep one copy for myself, after all!

Tomorrow evening is a steampunk meetup with some of the Everett crew in Lake Stevens. On Friday is the Sherlock Seattle con afterparty, and I'll be picking up a few folks locally who don't have their own transportation so that they can get to the AFK.

I think, at the moment, my weekend is reasonably clear. I've been working on my fic off and on this evening since I got home. While I do need to get up tomorrow, I'm not tired enough to go to bed yet, so I'll probably work some more on it before I crash.
erynn: Gaelic merman image (two ravens)
No, it wasn't the box of poetry books I was expecting. It was this:

Suibhne Geilt by Michael Quirke

This is the Suibhne Geilt carving I've been waiting for from Michael Quirke in Ireland. I knew it had been shipped out a week or two back, but I wasn't certain how long it would take to arrive. That was the package I'd missed on Saturday while I was out at the veterans day parade, which seems rather fitting, all things considered.

Also in the mail I got Sherlock: The Casebook from the UK, which is a hilarious combination of diary/scrapbook of John Watson, with inserted annotations by Sherlock and Mycroft (and responses from John) via sticky notes, and talk about the behind the scenes stuff and various Sherlockiana. I'd had a chance to look at it very briefly during the Sherlock con a couple of weeks ago, but this is a treat. This kind of thing is one of the reasons I love fandom so much. People with weird senses of humor, and nerdcraft. I'm about halfway through it and will probably finish it up sometime tomorrow.

I did a little more writing today, but not a lot. Current word count is 13,157 but I may add a little more before I go to bed. Tomorrow is my monthly shrinkage, Thursday is group, then some of the Krakens are getting together at a new place in Lake Stevens to check that out. Friday is the Sherlock Seattle afterparty at the AFK. Busy week!

Yay games!

erynn: Gaelic merman image (Cthulhu attacks!)
Today I mailed out the copies of my books that I owed to people, so that's finally over and done with. Those of you expecting them should receive them soonish. I sent them book rate within the US and first class to overseas.

Later this evening, I went down to the AFK to play Munchkin Cthulhu with friends, and had a lovely time. I tried their veggie burger, which was actually pretty good as those things go. I almost won at Munchkin, but the three of them ganged up on me just as I was going to get the final level, and knocked me back down to level one. It was pretty hilarious. I'd dropped a level four monster and suddenly I had about 35 levels of monster to deal with, and nothing like that much firepower, so, dead. Back to square one. So it goes. ;)

When I got home this evening, I tossed together the informational email for the folks who are coming to Samhain on Sunday. I have my menu put together and just have to do a little shopping tomorrow evening for everything so that I can get cooking when I'm up and about on Sunday before everyone arrives.

Tomorrow afternoon [livejournal.com profile] joyful_storm is coming by for tea and hanging out. I'll do my shopping after she heads home. Tonight I've got to write up the ritual to send off to [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor so that she'll know what we're doing. She said earlier today that she's got a cold, and is hoping that she'll feel better on Sunday. I hope she'll be well enough to come, but can handle things alone if she's not.

And now, off to write ritual.
erynn: Gaelic merman image (totem seadragon)
Today was group at the VA. I took three copies of my poetry book in, and all three of them sold. Several of the other members want one, so I'll bring a few more next week. I think I will need to order some new ones next month. I also gave a copy to Leon and Allen over at Travelers when I stopped in today for dinner after my appointment. I have to remember to call VA dental tomorrow to schedule a replacement for one of my fillings. No fun.

Tomorrow I also have to go to the postal place and mail out a stack of books to people. And write the Samhain ritual. And then friends asked if I wanted to play Cthulhu Munchkin at the AFK tomorrow night, which I very likely will.

I have a tentative menu for Samhain dinner on Sunday. I haven't heard anything from Qi about the Krakens party at SteamCon this weekend, which means I most likely won't be going. There was a chance I'd be going just to hang out at the room party without attending the con, but it seems unlikely at this point.

My new MS Office 2011 arrived today and I installed it before I headed down to Seattle. It'll take a little getting used to, but it has a distraction-free mode where it blanks out the rest of the desktop while you're writing, so perhaps that'll be useful and I can get to work on the ogam in magic article for Abraxas sometime soon.

Got email from [livejournal.com profile] druid_medb about our proposed session at PantheaCon, and she wants to come up for a visit to talk about it and plan things out. I told her what my current schedule looks like, so she can suggest a timeframe for her visit. It'll be fantastic to see her again.

DONE!

erynn: Gaelic merman image (kermitflail!)
Finally finished up and printed out my outline and notes for the presentation on Saturday. I also wrote about 1500 words in the fic I'm working on. My sleep schedule, if you can call it that, is a complete laugh. I was in bed about 7:30 this morning and awake about 4:30 this afternoon. I have no idea how I'm going to manage the next few days of being in human company.

Tomorrow is the spirituality group. I have to be out the door by 2pm in order to be at the VA by 3. Friday I have a 2pm VA appointment, then the EBC Meet & Greet is in Seattle down near Pioneer Square at 8:30pm. Saturday my presentation is at 3 down in the Seattle Center, and I'd like to be there for most of the day, though I'm unlikely to actually make the morning sessions. In the evening I presume there's entertainment, though I don't know yet what or where, as I haven't looked. Sunday [livejournal.com profile] alfrecht is presenting, and there's the after-party at the Masonic lodge.

I think Monday is "Erynn collapses in a heap" day. It's almost 2:50am right now and I'm too awake to sleep, though I'm going to head for bed with something to read anyway.

Jason sent more cover art for the poetry book today, as well, and I went through that and offered a couple of choices from the list, with a comment about one of them. He says Monday we should have the cover together, then it's down to typesetting the text of the book. He said he'll be sending me cover blurb stuff as he gets it in, so I can look at it. I'm so excited I could pop!
erynn: Gaelic merman image (ogam sequence)
Today I was down at the VA for the first session of the spirituality group. It was great to see everyone again, and I was happy to be there. I didn't stick around to wait at the travel office because half the time it's not in the system yet by the time I get down there after group, so I'll pick up the travel funds next week when I go in. I did wander over to the hill to wait out the traffic and took a couple of copies of Circle of Stones over to Robert. He was quite pleased to see them.

I hung out at Elliott Bay Cafe for a while and read, then wandered over to a sushi place on 12th that I hadn't been to before, as they were having a quite reasonably priced happy hour. Got myself an unagi roll, a short plate of four different pieces of nigiri, and a cup of genmaicha. It was just enough without being too much; my stomach is still out of sorts from the other night and I'm having trouble with the acid reflux again, ugh. I really wish it would settle down.

When I got home, I did a fair bit of scanning of images for the EBC presentation. I think I have most of the stuff I need. [livejournal.com profile] alfrecht checked over my dates for me on my listing of manuscript sources for ogam texts and marginalia; he pronounced it good. Tomorrow I can spend some time trying again with photos of things I need, and doing a few more necessary things, then Saturday I can probably finish up expanding my notes so that I have a coherent presentation together. Jeff's coming by Monday, I think, given that I wasn't really up to trying to get home during rush hour and wasn't sure I would be feeling well enough to actually work tonight. Things turned out better than I expected, but I was glad for the time just sitting and reading.

Fic brain has set in and I've started a (hopefully) short story in a new fandom. I don't have time for anything really long, but I do want to write something, and I'm not quite in the right headspace to work on the Brigid book yet. I'm waiting until after the poetry book comes out to get deeply into that. I also have to put together quite a few more blog posts with photos to cover the pilgrimage and my trip.

The other thing I need to do tomorrow is choose some pull quotes from my poems for the publicity for Fireflies at Absolute Zero. Two projects. Two small projects. I think I can manage them before I head over to the AFK to play Cthulhu Fluxx with friends tomorrow night. Also, mailing out stuff to mom tomorrow. Must do that.
