I was having an immensely hard time transferring my photos from the computer to an SD card today. I spent several hours messing with it, only to have the computer decide not to transfer the same number of pics I'd asked it to, repeatedly. At this point, I've given up and will be hauling the iMac down to PCon with me for the informal chat in the ADF suite. It'll be awkward and a pain in the ass, but easier on me than trying to figure out WTF with the photos that are refusing to transfer.

While I was out picking up the card I tried to use, I got myself a Cthulhu Fluxx game, which I shall look forward to playing with my various and sundry co-conspirators.

Beyond that frustration, not much happened today. Tomorrow will be group at the VA and Tuesday I hit the road for California. I emailed my mechanics to make an appointment to have Garuda's brakes and tires checked on Friday so that I know everything is in working order when I head south. The rest of Friday is going to be dedicated to the rest of my packing and last-minute prep. I don't expect to get everything done on Friday, of course. I'll be doing laundry Monday, most likely, and finish packing my clothes that day. Tuesday morning before I hit the road, will be actually packing up the computer.

Called the Momster today and talked with her for a while to catch up on all kinds of things. We talked a little about the upcoming cross country road trip, and my plans for bits of that. I'm looking forward to it immensely.

I spent a few hours today doing stuff around the house. I dealt with the guest bathtub drain (ugh), indulged in some banana bread that I made last night, did dishes, and did more toward finishing up prep for the PCon presentation. This evening I went out with friends to the AFK for some steampunk and Zombie Dice (I lost all three rounds - my zombie feets were not very quick). When I got home, I printed out the outline and the notes for the presentation and dragged out the big notebook to start scribbling things for the physical end of the presentation there.

[livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor brought B home from the transit station and took her off shopping to Trader Joe's. We all had something hot to drink and watched an episode of The Tick. Much fun was had by all. She will likely be starting up an Irish language class up here in Everett sometime soon, just down the block. It'll be $10 per lesson, if anyone local is interested. I can give you details once they're hammered out.

And now, I am going to crawl off to bed.

I've been in contact with a few more people today and got responses from some of them. Folks in Providence have been contacted, Owen passed the info along and I'm waiting to hear back. Mom suggested I get in touch with an old friend of hers in Indianapolis, though she only has a phone, no computer. I haven't seen her since I was maybe 12 or 13, which is more recently than I had seen Lowell Ford before I went to visit him a couple of years back. The phone thing will be awkward for me, but it would be nice to see her again.

Mom has been giving me some idea of drive times that she's done on her trips to various places along the way. I deal a little better with distance driving than she does, but will take her trips as a guideline.

I got confirmation on my hostel reservation in Ashland today for my trip to PCon, so that's one thing done and out of the way.

Tonight I went with a friend over to Gary and Melody's for a game evening. We played Munchkin Apocalypse, which everyone really liked, and several rounds of Zombie Dice to cap off the evening. [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor wasn't able to go, as she wasn't feeling well, but greetings were passed along and regrets extended.

Today was cold and clear, and it's down to 24f here tonight. When I drove down into Everett it was deeply foggy. When I came home, I stuck to surface streets rather than taking I-5 because I didn't want to have to worry about people going to fast with low visibility. It was less stressful that way.

Tomorrow, if I'm feeling up to it, there may be dancing in the evening. I'm hoping I'll get a little writing and prep for PCon done, as well. I got some notes from [livejournal.com profile] alfrecht that are helpful, as usual. I still need to dig out some books and do more research to add to my list of Irish healing deities. Busy Erynn remains busy. (And cold.)

I'm feeling kind of awesome and kind of sniffly. My friend [livejournal.com profile] fififolle, whom I met this summer, said that I was one of the highlights of her year:

I had rather an up and down year writing-wise, but a highlight of my year was meeting in person the lovely erynn999, someone who inspired my writing in early days, showed me what good slash is, and continues to do so. Thank you, sweetie, for coming to visit me!

I'm so touched, Fi - you are amazing and wonderful and always welcome under my roof anytime you are in the same hemisphere.

I went to the Post-Apocalypse steampunk tea at Kier's place over in Greenwood for a couple of hours and had a lovely time. I played Martial Fluxx with friends, shared info about the Sherlock Seattle party on January 6th with one of my friends, and learned that there is an Abney Park and Steam Powered Giraffe show in Everett in April that I want to go to, since it's about 15 minutes from my place.

When I got home, I ended up writing a 3,300 word outline for a fic I want to do later this year when I've got the article on ogam finished and a good start on the Brigid book. Geordie says that he'd be interested in doing a panel on esoteric poetry at the Esoteric Book Conference in September, and put him in touch with [livejournal.com profile] alfrecht, who wants to propose one with us and Ruby Sara, who edited the Datura and Mandragora anthologies.

Now my left hand ring finger is all numb and hurting. I'm going to have to lay off the keyboard for a couple of days and to pay my bills tomorrow.

Tired Erynn will now crawl off and go to bed.

Today was [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor's birthday party. Her birthday was at the end of October, but there was a lot going on then, so the party got put off until today. She had friends over and we hung out and played some games, then she dashed off for tango dancing.

I got home and dealt with some online things, hung out with fandom folks in chat, and read some fic. Tomorrow, I'm picking up [livejournal.com profile] druid_medb in Seattle at the train station in the evening. There will be much rejoicing.

Later!
erynn: Gaelic merman image (Five Thousand Fingers of Dr T)
There wasn't much going on today. I got up and dealt with some stuff around the house, then dropped by the store for a few things. [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor came by about 7 and we went over to G & M's for some gaming. Zombie Dice, Cthulhu Dice, and Pirate Fluxx were had by all.

Got home and made up a bunch of vegetarian food, which I ate some of and stuffed the rest into the fridge. Tomorrow afternoon is [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor's much-belated birthday party.

Sunday evening I pick up [livejournal.com profile] druid_medb down in Seattle in the evening.

Fun stuff!
erynn: Gaelic merman image (Genius Signal)
Apparently my credit union's phone app can now be used to take a photo of a check and deposit it, which means if people give me checks, I no longer have to actually get in a car and go to the building to deal with it. They used to have a cash machine where I could deposit down at the Safeway, a short walk from here, but they changed to a different financial outlet, so the next nearest place is about a 10 minute drive when there's no traffic, and it's nowhere near anything I actually go to, so I have to make a special trip. Anyway, yay for being able to use the phone to do this!

Went down to the VA today for group, grabbed some food at Travelers, and realized I really should change the wiper blades now that I have a new windshield. The car started just fine today, though there was a very slight hesitation this morning. No other troubles.

I got email today from [livejournal.com profile] druid_medb about her coming up for some planning and such; she'll be here on Sunday evening and staying for a few days. I have her arrival time but not the departure date as yet. I know she has to be back home by the Monday after that (not this coming Monday), so that sets a hard limit for her.

Friday evening I'll be heading over to some friends' with [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor for gaming and potluck. I'm pretty sure something is happening Saturday but I can't remember off the top of my head. My brainmeats, let me show you them. Sunday evening I pick up [livejournal.com profile] druid_medb.

I need to get started on the ogam magic article shortly. Won't be tonight, but possibly tomorrow during the day.
erynn: Gaelic merman image (triple nerd score)
I spent most of the day today down at the AFK with friends, where we played Zombie Fluxx, Cards Against Humanity (hilarious but omg so very very wrong), and a bunch of rounds of Zombie Dice. I had a great time and then headed home, where [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor and I watched The Princess Bride I'd been kind of jonesing for a rewatch for a while now, so it was nice to see it curled up on the couch with my sweetie.

Tomorrow I have company coming over and I'm all excited for that. I forgot to call my mom today but I'll try to remember to call her tomorrow.

Hey, Momster, I love you! Sorry I forgot to call!

There is a bad movie night in the works with my gaming buds.

Yay games!

Today I mailed out the copies of my books that I owed to people, so that's finally over and done with. Those of you expecting them should receive them soonish. I sent them book rate within the US and first class to overseas.

Later this evening, I went down to the AFK to play Munchkin Cthulhu with friends, and had a lovely time. I tried their veggie burger, which was actually pretty good as those things go. I almost won at Munchkin, but the three of them ganged up on me just as I was going to get the final level, and knocked me back down to level one. It was pretty hilarious. I'd dropped a level four monster and suddenly I had about 35 levels of monster to deal with, and nothing like that much firepower, so, dead. Back to square one. So it goes. ;)

When I got home this evening, I tossed together the informational email for the folks who are coming to Samhain on Sunday. I have my menu put together and just have to do a little shopping tomorrow evening for everything so that I can get cooking when I'm up and about on Sunday before everyone arrives.

Tomorrow afternoon [livejournal.com profile] joyful_storm is coming by for tea and hanging out. I'll do my shopping after she heads home. Tonight I've got to write up the ritual to send off to [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor so that she'll know what we're doing. She said earlier today that she's got a cold, and is hoping that she'll feel better on Sunday. I hope she'll be well enough to come, but can handle things alone if she's not.

And now, off to write ritual.
erynn: Gaelic merman image (totem seadragon)
Today was group at the VA. I took three copies of my poetry book in, and all three of them sold. Several of the other members want one, so I'll bring a few more next week. I think I will need to order some new ones next month. I also gave a copy to Leon and Allen over at Travelers when I stopped in today for dinner after my appointment. I have to remember to call VA dental tomorrow to schedule a replacement for one of my fillings. No fun.

Tomorrow I also have to go to the postal place and mail out a stack of books to people. And write the Samhain ritual. And then friends asked if I wanted to play Cthulhu Munchkin at the AFK tomorrow night, which I very likely will.

I have a tentative menu for Samhain dinner on Sunday. I haven't heard anything from Qi about the Krakens party at SteamCon this weekend, which means I most likely won't be going. There was a chance I'd be going just to hang out at the room party without attending the con, but it seems unlikely at this point.

My new MS Office 2011 arrived today and I installed it before I headed down to Seattle. It'll take a little getting used to, but it has a distraction-free mode where it blanks out the rest of the desktop while you're writing, so perhaps that'll be useful and I can get to work on the ogam in magic article for Abraxas sometime soon.

Got email from [livejournal.com profile] druid_medb about our proposed session at PantheaCon, and she wants to come up for a visit to talk about it and plan things out. I told her what my current schedule looks like, so she can suggest a timeframe for her visit. It'll be fantastic to see her again.
erynn: Gaelic merman image (Marlene in a suit)
It was nearly 90 here today, and probably considerably hotter down in Seattle, where it tends to be somewhat warmer and dryer than Everett. I didn't sleep at all last night, and slept until about 1pm this afternoon, then walked down to mail out the VA survey and the stuff for my mom. While I was there I stopped and got a scoop of blackberry ice cream because it was actually hot enough out for me to eat it without my body temperature crashing hard. I also stopped at the drug store and got myself a new pair of clip-on sunglasses, as my previous pair broke yesterday. I was not best pleased, needless to say.

This evening I went over to the AFK to play a few games with friends. The gal from the north end lesbian meetup showed, and she's a gamer as well. She's played Munchkin before and was eager to pick up Fluxx as well. Gary had brought Cthulhu Fluxx (Cthulhu won. Big surprise.) We played some Zombie Dice and there was also a semi-board game called Zombie!!! (yes, with all the exclamation marks), and Gary won all of those games. I vowed vengeance. As you do.

I just got home a little while ago. [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor is here for the night and doing some laundry. We might possibly watch a vid. I'm not sure what, but I can ask. Didn't get stuff done for EBC, as I'd kind of been planning to be home earlier and do some work then, and hadn't known she would be here, but it's all okay. There's time tomorrow.

I did get a little work done on the fic, and got my beta into the doc after some back and forth. All is progressing reasonably well.

Also, I got the publicity graphics that I can print out and copy for the EBC for Fireflies, here:

Cover promo Fireflies

Feel free to make copies and pass them around wherever you think there might be interest!
erynn: Gaelic merman image (Insane: What's Your Excuse?)
Too many things.

The tool that [livejournal.com profile] martianmooncrab sent me worked a charm, and now the garbage disposal works again.

More links and information were found and stuffed into a file and some bits were sent off to the pilgrimage list.

Laundry got done.

Dishes got done.

Bills got paid.

Friends got talked to.

Munchkin got played.

Email got dealt with (over 300 today just on one list alone, it was a bit overdone).

Food things got picked up at the store, as my half and half expired nastily before I could have my tea this morning.

Guests are here, and [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor went to bed at least half an hour ago. I should be there myself shortly.

Tomorrow I have a bazillion more things to do toward the pilgrimage, and I'm going to be hauled off for dinner, as I don't actually have the time to go and enjoy a day at the roller derby. Other things also need to be planned and dealt with, but I got a lot done today despite brain-death on the hoof. I feel pretty good about that.
erynn: Gaelic merman image (asclepius rod)
Today was the last session for the VA group I've been going to. This means that my Thursdays will be free, so it's one less thing I have to worry about while I'm preparing for the trip. I'll miss everyone, but I won't be back with the group until I return home in August.

At Travelers today, I spoke to Leon, who was on his way out the door. Apparently his partner Allen has been in hospital for the last week, and had finally been scheduled for surgery. They are barely holding on with the business and the restaurant (which is doing better than the shop, but it still has a way to go yet), and that means that their health insurance is minimal, if it exists at all. Folks in the community have put together a fund on ChipIn to help pay Allen's hospital bills. I hang out there all the time. I've known Leon and Allen since I moved to Seattle in 1988. They are awesome people and I've sent what I could afford to try and help them out. Please, if you go to Travelers, or if you just enjoy hearing me talk about hanging out there with the fabulous folks who also hang out there, send what you can. Even a dollar or two will help. I know it's hard right now for everyone, so if you can do anything at all, please do, and thank you, and if you can't, at least keep them in your thoughts or send healing to them. I'd hate to see them lose all they've worked for over the years because of hospital bills.

I also did get a chance to catch up with D today, and we were joined by [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor for a while. We caught up on everything that's been happening since he went to NYC for work a few months back, and the project he's doing -- a documentary on indie musicians -- while we had some chai. A little before 7, B got off work so he went down to pick her up and we reconvened at the B&O, where we had dinner together. I'm hoping we'll be able to get together again before he has to head back to NYC in a week or two.

Tomorrow I'll be over at the AFK in the evening for Munchkin. My guests will be coming about 2pm, and I'm going to try to get a little more work done around here tomorrow. I didn't really have a chance to do more laundry (or dishes) today, but they do need to be done. While I was at Travelers waiting for D, I got a little work done toward pilgrimage stuff, deciding on which ogam letters would be useful meditation themes for the different days and destinations. More of the shape of the exercises and rituals are coming together in my head. I got email from [livejournal.com profile] vyviane about the packing list for the trip, and I need to add my input tomorrow when I have a chance. I don't have a lot to add, but I do have a couple of suggestions for stuff for the rituals.

[livejournal.com profile] martianmooncrab, the thingie arrived today, along with the book you sent. Thank you! I'll try messing with the garbage disposal tomorrow, when I have a little light and some brain to work with.

And now, back to the mines.
erynn: Gaelic merman image (cthulhu ONOES!)
I'm doing better today. I'm at least no longer in agony. My ears mostly work again and the pain in my back was better enough by about 4pm that I was able to leave the house. I'd been wanting to get some Zombie Dice for a while, so I went over to the mall to see if I could find some at the game shop there.

The shop I'd remembered was gone. I asked at the comics shop, and she sent me over to the video game shop. The guy at the video game shop said there was a new game shop where the old Borders had been, so I went over there and, sure enough, Zombie Dice!

Photobucket

Not only did I get Zombie Dice, I got a Munchkin Cthulhu expansion set, and on a whim picked up another card game that basically is about building Rube Goldberg devices. Should be interesting.

After I got home, I got a text from Geordie (neither [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor nor I made it to his class today) hoping that I was feeling better. I pinged him and asked if he wanted to come up for the night, which would guarantee that I'd be at his class tomorrow, but also allowed me some time to run some of the pilgrimage stuff past him (I made some new notes, so at least a little progress was made today on it), and I was able to give him the old iPhone. We're not sure if it will function in Canada, as the old iPhones were locked, but AT&T says that they will unlock phones now, so he might be able to go to his provider and get it functioning. Even if not, he can use it for wireless access, calendar, and all that other stuff that an iPhone is good for.

So tomorrow I'm taking Geordie down to Seattle early to set up for his 12-3:30 class. We went next door for dinner and grabbed some pizza, then came back and poked around with the above-noted details. I'll be heading for bed shortly so that I'll be able to actually wake up in time to get us out of here by about 10am or a little after.

Nutshell: Doing better but not perfectly. Things got done. Yay me!
erynn: Gaelic merman image (ow. Robertson Davies)
After dithering a bit, hanging out in a livestream with a fan artist and some fanficcers and other fen, I finally got down to messing about with my poetry manuscript. I selected four poems to send to Jason for Written River, their e-journal, and mailed them off.

My parts have been giving me a lot of trouble today and I spent more than half an hour lying in bed wondering if I should even bother trying to get up, but I knew I had things to do. A hot shower helped, but not nearly enough. Still, I managed to move enough to get started with the day. It took me several hours to get enough wherewithal to deal with the poetry.

By this evening I was feeling mostly okay, so I took myself over to the AFK for some food and Munchkin Cthulhu (and Cthulhu dice). Stayed for about three hours before I wandered home again.

When I got here, dishes needed to be done and trash had to be hauled out.

I got email from Geordie, whose ride down to Seattle decided she wanted to head south Sunday instead of tomorrow, so we won't be meeting him for the Medieval Women's Choir concert. I haz a sad. I still need to get down to Seattle early, though, as I have to pick up [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor before the concert, and to drop of a book at the Suzzallo. I'm hoping I'll be functional before 3pm tomorrow; that was about when I finally shook off my stupor today and managed to get moving and have a shower.

Sunday, it's Lovecraft movies!
erynn: Gaelic merman image (lynx at first glance)
It was a slow but delightfully full day today. I went over to the Scuttlebutt Brewing Company to meet a couple of [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor's bandmates, who are organizing a sea kayaking trip in August to go up to Vancouver island for orca watching. Sadly, they will either be going the weekend before I return from Europe, or the day after. In either case, I won't be able to go along this year, but I definitely want to make plans for it next year, as it sounds fantastic. I'm going to try to talk the sib into coming back here for a visit so that he can go with me. I had a couple of fun hours talking with everyone, even if I don't get to go this year.

After that, I stopped by the AFK to see if my friends were there for their usual Friday night game evening; they were, so we played Guillotine and Zombie Dice for a while, until about 11pm, then I headed home. I've been mucking about with Plants vs Zombies a little bit after getting here and will probably poke at it again when I'm done with the post. I finally figured out a strategy for getting through the Last Stand mini-game. There are only four mini-games left that I haven't beaten. I've done all the puzzle games and beaten those, and have got to 11 waves of zombies for I, Zombie Endless (it just keeps going, the idea is to see how many levels you can beat before you fail). There are also Quick Play levels that mimic the various levels of the main game, and a bunch of bonus games that I haven't even really looked at yet. Mostly I like playing It's Raining Seeds, which drops random plants that you try to use to keep the zombies from eating you. I should really poke at some of the bonus games to see what they're like.

***

Okay, bonus games poked. Fun has been had.

See you tomorrow!
erynn: Gaelic merman image (Eggplant)
Yesterday was headachy and exhausted, after only getting about four hours sleep the night before. I didn't accomplish much, though I did get out to the AFK to play Fluxx. Despite having my brain tied behind my back I kicked Cap'n Dick's ass twice. It was giggle worthy. I tried to stay until [livejournal.com profile] lupagreenwolf and [livejournal.com profile] smcinpdx would be able to make it up, but I was so wiped out that I had to leave early and was in bed by probably 8:30. I slept until about 4am, stayed awake reading for a couple of hours, then went back to sleep and got up around 12:30. By that time, sadly, they had scarpered south to Seattle and are heading back to Portland later.

When I got up today I actually ate something, which is kind of unusual, but given that I usually eat after midnight at some point, I was pretty hungry when I woke up. I'm still tired and achy but feeling considerably better. A second cup of tea will probably help a lot.

This evening I'll be heading over to Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park for a friend's birthday party.

And the email just brought confirmation that [livejournal.com profile] ogam is going to be going on the Ireland pilgrimage with me! YAAAAAY! (This all by itself brightens my day immensely!) Speaking of which, I intend to do more work on the pilgrimage material today before I have to go to the birthday party.

Tomorrow is the podcast/chat interview at Conversations From the Porch from 2pm Pacific/5pm Eastern. Perhaps I will see/hear you there.
erynn: Gaelic merman image (Music by Leonardo)
What you missed the other night:

Today was mostly just trying to get myself together and go out to the steampunk social and deal with updating software after taking the computer over to the AFK. [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor is here, having gone to band practice. She and her bandmates will be going to the steampunked Pirates of Penzance with us and are taking care of getting the tickets for the 30th.

I made reservations for my birthday at the AFK on Tuesday the 27th for 15 people. If you're in the area and you are free that evening, please come by around 7pm to hang out for a couple of hours!

I've been messing with Plants vs. Zombies some more, with the puzzle games. My Zen Garden has been sprouting new plants and dropping coins, as it is supposed to. I got through all the I, Zombie levels and am now dealing with the endless level. Poked back into the Zen Garden because one of the zombies dropped a plant and I wanted to get it started.

Tomorrow I have to go down to the VA for shrinkage, then Irish class, then [livejournal.com profile] wire_mother's birthday party. I'll be taking along my various resources and making notes again. I need to get more done on the pilgrimage stuff. I've got things for a couple of the days but I need to flesh them out more, and to work on the days for which I haven't got particular themes or exercises as yet. More idea-getting is a necessity. I'll probably have some time between getting out of the VA and heading over to Edge for class to do a little thinking and note-making.
erynn: Gaelic merman image (writy pooped)
Home again. I am flat flat flat. Manresa Castle is a pretty damned cool place. There was no bathroom in our room there, but we had a private bath across the hall that had a HUGE jacuzzi, which we used after the evening's events for a small hot tub party.

The seance was fun but not much happened, which we rather expected. The murder mystery was hilarious. (Almost) everybody died. A long time ago. Most of the group were actually ghosts. It was exceedingly amusing.

[livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor and I had brunch down in Port Townsend at the Silverwater restaurant. They've started doing Sunday brunch and it was really excellent food that had things both of us could eat. It can be really hard to find a place that serves both breakfast food and lunch food at the same time, so I was delighted to find that they'd started doing this a little less than a year ago.

Bookshops were haunted. A couple of books were purchased. I tried to go to a writer's bookshop and resource center, which claimed to be open from 11am on Sundays, but we stopped several times between 11 and 12, and nobody was there. Writers. Unreliable, the lot of 'em.

Upon departing Port Townsend, we pretty much drove straight onto the Kingston to Edmonds ferry, being the next to last vehicle aboard before the sailing. We were right behind some of the other folks who had been at the party.

When I got home I had another order for the Circle of Stones pdf file, which I sent out promptly.

I am now going to slug off to bed for a bit. We had to be checked out of the hotel by 11am, but my eyes wobbled open at 8:30 and I'm just crispy.
erynn: Gaelic merman image (Whitman: not all who wander)
Back now from dinner, which was fucking awesome with awesomesauce and little doom sprinkles. They had multiple things that [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor could eat, so they win on many levels.

The drive to Portland was mostly okay, with some sleet and hail south of Olympia, but visiting with [livejournal.com profile] martianmooncrab for lunch was lovely. She gifted me with the Munchkinomicon expansion pack for my Munchkin Cthulhu game. There will be mayhem. Much mayhem. I promise.

Setting out for points south, we met with rain, sun, snow, hail, sleet, and just generally craptoid weather. There's snow enough in the pass just beyond Ashland that chains are required, at least tonight. I don't know what the passes will look like in the morning, but when I stop to gas up I'll ask at the station because they usually keep an eye on these things. I do have chains in the car just in case, but I'd like to know ahead of time so that I can have things ready if necessary.

There were communications kerfuffles regarding the hostel; the owner had been unable to reach us by phone (some kind of interference and not able to leave voicemail), so she emailed me about 4:30 this afternoon but, unlike my usual habit, I hadn't checked my email at the rest stops. We showed up in Ashland a little before 9pm not having heard from her, not knowing the key code to get into the place. I couldn't find it in the dark and the snow, so I parked down the street at the Minute Mart and asked the clerk, who wasn't sure where the place was. I left the car there and walked up until I found it, then brought the car around to the little lot in the back. There was one slot left in the 3-car parking space, so we parked and I walked up to the back door, where the owner had left a note for me on the door saying she'd emailed and I could call her at her home number if I had any questions.

Email was checked, and we got into the place and set ourselves up in the room before heading down to the Standing Stone Brewpub for dinner. Given that I'd left a couple of very frustrated messages on the hostel voicemail when I hadn't any clue what was going on, I called the owner and told her what had happened and said please ignore the frustrated messages, so I think we're cool with the technological malfunction, given that all is well.

Check out time tomorrow is 10am. She said she should be back by then. There's another pair of young women here and a young guy in another room. [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor and I have a little private room to ourselves, so all is snug and happy. I'm at the hostel desk and she is sitting on the couch in front of the fire, where I will join her after I'm done here and have caught up with a couple more things online.

We're planning on hitting the road by 10 and trying to stop somewhere for food after the pass. I don't know that we'll be able to find anything [livejournal.com profile] gra_is_stor-safe in Yreka, but I'm giong to do a little web searching to see what might be available. One never knows. She at least has things she can nibble until we get somewhere lunchward, maybe as far as Redding. We're more likely to find edible food for her there. If anyone has suggestions for multiple-food-allgery-sensitive places we might stop along the way to Oakland/Berkeley in Northern California on the I-5 corridor, please let me know.

And now, off to deal with final bits and pieces before I collapse in a heap from a really stressy drive. So Very Glad that I decided to reserve a room here rather than deal with the pass tonight! This makes for a much happier Erynn.
